In an ambitious move to strengthen immunization efforts among marginalized populations, UNICEF Communication launched the Immunity Express initiative in Khrotabad 2, Quetta. The innovative campaign blended vaccination services with interactive, community-driven activities, creating an engaging and welcoming environment that encouraged widespread participation.

Designed to increase polio vaccination coverage among children under five, Immunity Express also focused on identifying and registering children from undocumented or “grey houses,” a group often missed by traditional health surveys.

The campaign featured interactive sessions such as games, puppet shows, and colorful displays to convey important health messages in a memorable manner. Health workers and social mobilizers engaged directly with families, addressing concerns and promoting the benefits of immunization.

“The Immunity Express initiative is a testament to the power of community engagement in advancing public health goals,” said Ms. Ayesha Khan, UNICEF’s Regional Health Officer. “By meeting families where they are, and by making health services accessible and inviting, we are ensuring that no child is left behind in the fight against polio.”

The drive saw a significant turnout, with hundreds of children vaccinated and numerous undocumented children formally registered. However, the high level of participation also highlighted operational challenges, including overcrowding and the need for additional staffing and mobile support to manage the flow of participants effectively.

Despite these challenges, the Immunity Express initiative stands as a model for future outreach efforts. Its success reinforces the importance of combining healthcare delivery with culturally resonant community engagement, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.

As polio eradication efforts continue, UNICEF’s innovative approach in Khrotabad 2 provides a hopeful blueprint for reaching every last child.
