Climate change is accelerating the degradation of ecosystems worldwide, leading to habitat loss, species extinction, and food chain disruptions, environmental scientists have warned.

Rising global temperatures, shifting weather patterns, and more frequent extreme events — such as wildfires and droughts — are altering ecosystems at an alarming rate. “Entire species are being pushed out of their natural habitats. Coral reefs are dying, forests are burning, and polar regions are melting,” said Dr. Amina Khurshid, an environmental researcher.

The warming of oceans has led to mass coral bleaching, impacting marine biodiversity. Meanwhile, changing temperatures are forcing animals and plants to migrate or adapt rapidly, which many cannot do in time.

Experts stress that the destruction of ecosystems also endangers human well-being, as nature provides essential services such as clean air, water, and climate regulation.

Environmental groups are urging governments to reduce carbon emissions, protect natural habitats, and invest in sustainable practices. “Protecting ecosystems is no longer a choice — it’s a necessity for our survival,” said Dr. Khurshid.
